Improving business process management systems

The book goal

Improving organisational business performance is a permanent imperative and a daunting task these days. Enterprises improve their performance by changing their business processes to perform more effectively and more efficiently. The main tool used for such improvements is a Business Process Management (BPM) system.

Obviously, all enterprises have their own BPM system, but some of these BPM systems are complex, a “problem” of their history, chaotic, and inefficient. Logically, some entreprises want to improve their BPM systems.

The difficulty is how to implement these improvements within existing disparate and complex IT systems, within the day-to-day operations, via small and evolutionary projects, and by targeting the whole company and its partners.

Our approach for improvement of such BPM systems is aimed at the step-by-step reduction, and ideally the elimination, of the gap that usually exists between the management model of an enterprise and the software-intensive implementation of its business system.

The book provides a coherent approach for the implementation of the enterprise’s systems development. Our goal is to build a city in accordance with a city master plan, and not just to add a few buildings. We use a systemic approach for constructing this “city” in such a way that it is highly adap­table for practically all organisational aspects: policies; priorities; existing data; IT systems; business processes; differing sizes of the problems to be addressed; available budgets; culture; etc.

We want that a delivered BPM system will be easy to evolve; thus we ensure its flexibility by design.

The book is aimed at people involved in the architecting, implementation and evolution of BPM systems as well as stakeholders of such systems.

The book status

The author plans to make one more iteration of the content of the book since some interesting material has appeared recently.

The author is looking for a publisher for this book.
